“Meet Dawn Feuerberg, and you soon get the feeling you’ve been surrounded in a sort of ethereal aura, like a lingering perfume containing one part enlightenment, three parts love, and about a dozen other qualities you can’t exactly name but know by the words we normally use, like kindness, generosity, sensitivity… gratitude. It’s kind of a buzz, and the kind of sensation that comes from being in the presence of an intuitive soul who has absorbed a great deal of wisdom while exploring much of the world, returning each time just a little better for the journey.”Hal Myers, Founder of Modern Fiber

Mission and Values

Aurora Adventures is always looking for ways to support the local communities that our groups visit. We aim to integrate and educate visitors about the customs and traditions of the villages and towns we visit rather than just observe from a distance. We support local artisans and do not take any commissions from sales made on our tours.
At the completion of every program Aurora Adventures allocates monies to be donated to select community activism projects or non-profit organizations in need. The participants of each tour collectively decides what cause or project will be the benefactor of the donation. We will facilitate follow-up progress reports to the cause/project that the participants choose to aid.
Each program includes:

  • Insured, comfortable and air conditioned vehicles are provided for transportation in the host country.
  • Optional International Medical Travel Insurance for each participant.
  • Pre-departure advising
  • Pre-departure and onsite orientations
  • Risk Management & Crisis management plan

Aurora Adventures by Dawn Feuerberg is committed to limiting the size of their groups and designing tailor-made excursions to allow for meaningful connections with local people and up-close encounters with nature. The importance of small groups adds to the success of Aurora Adventures customized programs. Through group travel, people are able to share their experiences, however, these are not “traditional” group tours getting on and off large buses. The groups that Aurora Adventures takes are small and personal designed to uncover the beauty and diversity of the region through intimate behind-the-scene tours that would often be impractical on your own.
Aurora Adventures, LLC creates customized reality tours, adventures, voluntourism programs for a wide range of groups and organizations. All programs are designed to uncover the beauty and diversity of the region through intimate behind-the-scene tours that would often be impractical on your own. Customized tours and excursions are tailored to each group’s needs and desires. Our programs and tours offer an alternative form of educational travel, exclusively tailored to the particular interests of your group. The Founder, Dawn Feuerberg, incorporates her personal experiences and long standing relationships abroad to create one- of- a -kind expereinces that provide rare opportunities for discovery that are unavailable to the casual tourist.
The work that Aurora Adventures does is philanthropic in nature. Many of our programs help support sustainability practices in the local communities especially the indigenous communities we visit. The indigenous communities really need our help and often have government grants to start eco-tourism projects but not enough resources/ knowledge to bring them to fruition. Their old methods of earning a living ( like deforesting the land, hunting turtles for the meat & eggs ) are no longer possible and they are looking for new ways to earn a living that is not destructive to the environment. Many communities in this area have successfully improved their rural communities by forming eco -cooperatives. There are many more trying to do the same but need some guidance. Tours with Aurora Adventures and Dawn Feuerberg may include a volunteer component, whether it be one day or the entire focus of the travel abroad experience.

Testimonials

It is an adventure I’ll remember for the rest of my life. You can read testimonials for days, but until you pack your bags and experience a home-stay in Mexico for yourself, you won’t get it. From the culture, to the food and the wonderful people you meet along the way.

Anthony Araujo, San Luis Obispo, 2015 participant

Great experience form my first time leaving the country. While very organized, there is also ample time to do what you want in fertile and cater to yourself. There is an abundance in history and culture in both the excursion and personal interactions. Also a very safe city. Going with a group also adds support, and provides opportunity for great friendships. You will learn a lot about the people, the city, the country and maybe even yourself! Very fun time!

Alexa Lindhal, San Luis Obispo, California, 2013 Spanish Language & Cultural Tour Participant

This was one of the best family vacations we have ever been on. We didn’t know what to expect and it surpassed any travel experience that we have had thus far!... I highly recommend the (Aurora Adventures) programs. The excursions are were well organized. There was obvioulsy much effort and thought (by Dawn) to make the Oaxacan experience full! Muchas Gracias!

Joanne Levy, San Luis Obispo, California, 2012 Spanish Language & Cultural Tour Participant
